At the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) International 2019, I had the chance to meet one of those men. On Friday morning, as I was walking to attend Chief John Buckman’s class on high-intensity instructing, I suddenly stopped dead in my tracks. There was Firefighter (Ret.) After the class, when Chief Buckman had me even more energized to teach, I saw Kevin Shea again. "It’s a sanctuary space but also an institutional interface to the city of Los Angeles," Dominic Leong told Dezeen. "The design is really trying to negotiate those two types of presence within the city, and we really thought of the project as a kind of mosaic of a multiplicity of identities."

In a few instances they have also been stacked together, modified and sculpted into an architecturally-designed home.
