Trailers, converted motels, and tiny backyard houses are already being touted by public officials as ways to temporarily or permanently shelter the homeless. Another solution they might consider? “Cargotecture,” or architecture built from repurposed shipping containers. Cheap, durable, and often quite charming, the corrugated steel structures have already found fans in a number of L.A. retailers and restaurateurs.

On our second day, Rhydian took us canoeing on the nearby Teifi River. Never one for voluntarily stepping off dry land, I nevertheless did as I was told and totally loved our Lord of the Rings-style, four hour journey with Chris and Rhod, our guides. We rode rapids, picnicked on the river bank, tried not to get competitive and wondered at the quiet and the beauty of it all.

The role of Pycelle went to Julian Glover, who portrayed the obsequious, doddering maester until Pycelle was killed in Season 6 by Qyburn’s little birds. But as Martin said in 2017, “Sometimes I still wonder at what might have been.”

If catering to a younger crowd is more “democratic”, according to Mr Rosen, it may also be more lucrative. “Today, the young people have so much money. They have more money than the old guys, and they like to show it and spend it. So you got to — if you’re a landmark or a restaurant like this — you have to make it au jour.”
Mr Rosen has bought two other buildings in the area, including a former bank that is now a graffiti-strewn skateboard shop and photo agency. “That area is one of my favourite parts of New York City,” he said of a once-gritty precinct that has tipped into trendy. “Great architecture, great cast-iron buildings, great cobblestones. And that’s where the action is right now.”
